Isn’t she gorgeous? The Illusion D’Ombre from Chanel’s collection celebrating 20 years since the launch of Rouge Noir is just so damn pretty in the pot – and look at the tiny brush that comes with it. It’s in two bits and goes together like a travel lip brush so it’s only about an inch and a half long closed. Bloody adorable. The collection also features an kohl liner, a mascara, a lipstick, a lip gloss, a mega sparkly nail top coat, and an amazing eye shadow palette, all with the same Rouge Noir undertones – as well as the original nail polish, obviously.
I know you’re (probably) not going to buy an eyeshadow based on its extremely dinky brush so it’s worth noting that the actual product is amazing too. Illusion D’Ombres are Chanel’s cream shadows and have almost a moussy texture to them. This one was definitely sheerer than I was expecting but it’s actually an ace colour on my pale skin and dark eyes – a sparkly blackened reddish brown, like the twinkliest, prettiest, bruise. The multi-tonal glitter is really fine and I didn’t end up with any on my cheeks, which is always nice, but it’s super sparkly when the light catches it. It’s almost impossible to take a photo that does it justice but I’ve tried to capture the twinkle a tiny bit. I’ve used it smudged along my lashline as liner and also as a wash of colour, and it worked well as both. My trusty Nars Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base actually doesn’t do a great job with cream products but the Two Faced Shadow Insurance makes it last all day without creasing.
I do know people who absolutely hate how this looks on them so it’s worth giving it a test before buying it. I’ve always found Chanel counters to be good at letting you swatch and have a little play with products, as well as being happy to apply colours on you if preferred. The collection is limited edition and might be hard to get hold of by now but I know that Boots got their stock late so should still have some instore. It’s also on their website, if you have the patience of a saint… (Boots, I love you, but please please please get a better website – one with a search function that works would be a good start).
