Travel skincare to keep my face freak-out free

Travel skincare routine

I’m currently in Glasgow, having a couple of days pootling around whilst Mr Mouse is at a conference. I walked much further yesterday than I meant to, so moving is proving something of an issue today – it turns out that I do, in fact, have hamstrings. And I think they hate me.

Less problematic is the state of my skin. I’ve learnt over the years that my face is extremely sensitive to the differences in the water from place to place, and takes a while to get used to changes, which means that short breaks used to wreak havoc and cause spots, sensitivity, and dry patches. Nice. I’ve now narrowed down my travel routine to four or five key products and my face seems to like it.

In the evening I use the Clinique Take the Day Off eye makeup remover, mainly because I have a diddy size which I’ll be refilling with my beloved Nivea remover, followed by Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm. I had a break from using this last year and I didn’t realise how much I missed it until I got a travel sized pot recently. It’s excellent at removing all makeup and grime with the first cleanse, and then leaving my skin soft and calm after the second. I’ll definitely get another giant pot soon. I also love the Emma Hardie cloths – like taking your cleanser off with a stuffed animal…

Next up is the Pixi Hydrating Milky Mist, spritzed all over and patted in. I like this – it’s calming and does seem to give some moisture – but I think I’ll get the Clinique Moisture Surge spray next, for a bit more oomph. Then it’s the Clinique Clearing Gel on a couple of stubborn blemishes before I whack Sunday Riley Luna oil all over my face and neck. I’m almost at the end of my bottle of this and it’s made a real difference to my skin tone. It’s super spendy but it does contribute to Space NK points…

In the morning, I just use the Emma Hardie balm and the Pixi spray, before adding a bit of moisturiser (currently Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief) and a hefty dose of SPF 50.

It might not seem simple but it takes about 5 minutes and keeps my skin calm and freak-out free.

What do you take with you when you travel? Does your skin hate changes in water too, or is mine ‘special’?
