I’ve wanted to try one of the Kat von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks for ages, mainly because they’re meant to be seriously long-lasting (the clue might be in the name…) and lipstick has an annoying habit of hanging around on my lips for about 30% as long as on everyone else. The brand isn’t sold in the UK so unless Sephora comes back here (there really should be a petition…), you’ll have to ask a kind Stateside friend to send you a care package, or do a big order from Sephora.
The packaging is a bit longer than most liquid lipsticks which is actually a bit annoying; the longer wand makes it slightly more treacherous to apply, especially with the bolder shades, I imagine, and it doesn’t fit into the ‘lipstick pocket’ in my handbag as easily as others, but it’s quite pretty.
The colour is brilliant; it’s one of those shades that seems to look different on everyone so swatches aren’t necessarily that useful, but you can see the colour you see on my inner arm (above) is pretty much how it looks on my lips too. It’s described as a ‘chestnut rose’, which is fairly accurate, actually – it’s definitely a good mixture of brown and pink, ’90s without being obnoxiously so. NYX Lip Suede in Soft Spoken is a fairly similar shade, if not a complete dupe, but the formula of the Kat von D is so much better.
If you apply it over balm then it won’t set properly, but on bare lips it dries down to a finish that’s matte without being too dry, and which doesn’t seem to emphasise dryness or fine lines. On me it held up against water, left a slight mark on my coffee mug, and gave up against a buttery crumpet, but only on the inside. When I reapplied it, and didn’t torture it with butter, it lasted for about 5 hours before fading fairly evenly. Not as longlasting as I’d hoped but better than the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams or the Sephora Cream Lip Stains.
I’d definitely get some other shades – Double Dare looks lovely, as do Mother and Nosferatu. I might give Echo a miss though…
