I’ve heard so many people complain about the fact that people are still wearing dark polishes and ‘surely it’s time for Spring colours now?’ Have you looked out of the window? It couldn’t look less Spring-like if it tried. It’s dreary, rainy, bloody cold, and frankly, I feel about as ready for pastel nails as I do for flip flops and ice cream (ok, I’m always ready for ice cream). I’m might not be reaching for Essie Lady Godiva or Sole Mate at the moment, but I’ve put together an edit of five shades that are perfect for this time of year.
First up is my favourite dark grey cream, which is Burberry Graphite Nail Polish. It’s a gorgeous blue-toned grey which looks really great with my short nails. I think that this was actually a limited edition for A/W 15 – sorry! It’s very similar to OPI Nein! Nein! Nein! from a couple of years ago.
The other dark shade is Essie Midnight Cami, which is a gorgeous deep shimmery navy. It has the usual marvellous formula and brush, and was my pick for the Christmas party (with copper glitter on my ring fingers).
Clockwise from top: Burberry Graphite, Essie Maximillian Strasse, Mavala Dancing Queen, Barry M Skinny Dip, Essie Midnight Cami
One of my favourite finds over Christmas was Mavala Polychrome Effect polish in Dancing Queen. It’s not something that I would usually go for but something about the shimmery pink and gold really caught my attention – check out the sparkle in the sunlight!
Another of the shades I’m loving at the moment is Essie Maximillian Strasse, which is the perfect dirty grey green shade. It’s one of the longest-lasting colours I’ve used, and the last time I wore I managed six days without a chip, which is a January miracle.
The most traditionally Spring-like colour is the Barry M Coconut Infusion in Skinny Dip. It’s one of the only nude polishes I’ve found which doesn’t make my super pale hands look like those of a corpse. It doesn’t last particularly long but goes on easily and looks rather lovely.
