Apparently it’s still two and a half weeks until autumn but, sitting here in a jumper and listening to the rain outside, it feels as if we’re very definitely there already. It’s such a cliché to say that autumn is your favourite season but it really has always been mine – my birthday is in October, my favourite kind of weather is the autumn-ideal of bright skies and cold air, and I love it when the evenings get darker, you can light candles and snuggle up under big blankets, and there’s far better stuff on tv. It also means a return to cosy jumpers (reassuringly less skimpy than summer-wear for this size 16), boots (I love an espadrille as much as the next person but they’re terrible when you get caught in the rain), and scarves (I love scarves so much and my mother is so enthusiastic about buying them that even if I were a giraffe, I’d still not have enough neck for them all).
I’ve been having a browse at all of the new things landing in shops recently and have picked out 15 of my favourites; I’m loathe to use the word ‘transitional’ because pretentious, but that’s what these are. Not all of them are new–the Zoeva palette is from last year, the Bioderma mask is an old favourite, and both styles of boots are classics–but all are excellent. My picks would have to be the Chinti & Parker top (spendy but excellent quality and MOOMINS), the Whistles jacket (they do such good leather), the new Benefit Airbrush concealer (really lovely texture), and the Asos jeans (I have two pairs and wear virtually nothing else on my bottom half).
